Mount Pleasant — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is partnering with local organizations to host a Prescribed Burn Program on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, from 3:00 to 5 p.m. at the Detrick Residence, 1730 Hickory Hill Lane, Salem, Iowa.
This educational event aims to help landowners and conservationists better understand the benefits and safe practices of prescribed burning. The program will cover Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) management, legal requirements, and burn safety procedures, and — weather permitting — will conclude with a live prescribed burn demonstration.
Participants will hear from local specialists and organizations about how prescribed burns can:
· Remove invasive species
· Release nutrients back into the soil
· Stimulate healthy new plant growth
· Improve wildlife habitat
This hands-on learning opportunity is designed to alleviate concerns and build confidence in implementing prescribed burns safely and effectively.
The program is free to attend, but space is limited to 40 participants. To register, contact the Henry County Extension Office at 319-385-8126 or scan the QR code on the flyer.
This event is made possible through the support of Pheasants Forever, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
