Pressure canner dial gauge testing available July 15 in Fairfield

Did you know the dial gauge on your pressure canner should be tested annually?

Sara Sprouse, ISU Extension and Outreach specialist, will perform pressure canner dial gauge testing during the Farmers Market on Saturday, July 15 from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Howard Park, Fairfield. There is no charge for the dial gauge testing.

Information on up-to-date food preservation resources will also be shared during the event.

“People are ‘rediscovering’ the benefits and fresh taste of home gardening and want to preserve that bounty to enjoy throughout the year by freezing, drying or canning those foods,” says Sprouse.

Since 2006, there have been new canning recommendations that everyone should be aware of when canning at home. In addition to the resources available, various food preservation equipment and supplies will be on display.
