Fight your family?s cabin fever with some fun and educational activities around things with scales. This year, the Washington County Conservation Board?s ice fishing clinic focuses not just on fish, but also snakes. The entire family will enjoy learning about ?Scales Above and Below? the water in this public program on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. Participants should meet at the Conservation Education Center at Marr Park.
Out on the ice, you will practice your ice fishing skills. Take a break and a chance to see fish in their habitat with an underwater camera in our little ice shelter. Afterward, warm up indoors with some hot cocoa. Then, explore the traveling exhibit ? Snakes, Rattles, and Holes ? during this grand opening weekend. View the Center?s fox snakes up close, or, if you choose, really, really close as you hold one yourself. Other fun snake-related activities will be ongoing throughout the afternoon as well.
As several sessions will be held outdoors, it is important to dress warmly. If the ice conditions become unfavorable, ice fishing information, tips and tricks, and safety will be held inside the Center. Call to check on ice conditions.
Participants are welcome to bring their own ice fishing gear. Anyone 16 or older is required to have a fishing license.
Marr Park is located one mile west of Ainsworth and 6 miles east of Washington on Highway 92. Thomas Marr Lake and the Conservation Education Center are located at the far south end of the park.
