Public invited to Iowa High School Speech Association District Contest

Fairfield High School will host an Iowa High School Speech Association District Individual Events contest at Fairfield High School on February 28. According to Noel Wotherspoon, head coach and contest manager, the FHS speech team invites the public to attend and requests assistance from the Fairfield area community. Volunteers are needed as timers, room chairpersons, concession and tab room workers, and in several other areas. The contest will run from 8 a.m. to mid- to late-afternoon, but helpers may sign up for shifts. Community members may volunteer or make inquiries by emailing Ms. Wotherspoon at noel.wotherspoon@fairfieldsfuture.org.
There will be 30 schools assigned to participate in the contest including teams from Burlington, Cardinal, Central Lee, Columbus Junction, Danville, Davis County, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Keota, Louisa-Muscatine, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Mount Pleasant, New London, Ottumwa, Pekin, Waco, Wapello, Washington, West Burlington, and Winfield-Mount Union.
Students will bring performances in Acting, After Dinner Speaking, Expository Address, Improvisation, Interpretive Reading (Poetry, Prose, and Literary Program), Original Oratory, Public Address, Radio News, Solo Musical Theatre, Spontaneous Speaking, Storytelling, and Videocasting. The contest is open to the public, with a $5.00 suggested contribution.
