Questers hold May meeting
N/A
Jun. 7, 2019 10:56 am
Martha Washington Questers 1032 met on May 24, 2019, at the home of Maurine Roberts with Sally Beezley as co-hostess. Eleven members and one guest attended. For roll call, each member paid 25 cents if she had given May baskets as a child, and 50 cents if she had not.
The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Janet Peterson gave the treasurer's report. The group voted to give F Troop $125 for picture framing and the Log Cabin $75 for framing a document. Connie Pence reported that the F Troop would have a presentation ceremony and have a plaque with the club's name on it. The check for Log Cabin will be sent to Marj Lins. It was also voted to give $25 to the State Questers Scholarship Fund and another $25 to the State Questers Preservation Fund.
The June outing was discussed, and the group decided to visit the F Troop for the plaque presentation and then go to Sutliff Bridge near Lisbon for a visit and lunch. The date is June 19, and the group will meet at 9 a.m. at the F Troop building.
In other business, Marilyn said she had filled out the forms so the club could have a display at the public library sometime next year. The club then had installation of officers for the next two years. The new president is Marilyn Whitenack, vice president is Jane Fehr, secretary is Connie Pence, treasurer is Janet Peterson, and historian is Linda Newlon.
Maurine led the program, in which everyone talked about their mothers in honor of Mother's Day this month. Each member shared memories of her mother, and they were very interesting. It seemed that most mothers were good seamstresses, and some liked to cook and others didn't. Some were housekeepers, and others were nurses and teachers. Most married young. Several were described as tomboys who joined the WAVES during World War II or flew airplanes and rode motorcycles. It was an enjoyable afternoon of reminiscing and sharing stories, followed by delicious snacks.
The next meeting will be the club's outing on June 19.
