The Fairfield Public Library is inviting readers of all ages to stay curious, creative, and cozy this winter by participating in its Winter Reading Challenge, which runs from Monday, Dec. 22 through Friday, January 23. This reading challenge encourages families and individuals to keep reading through the cold month of January while enjoying a full slate of free activities while tracking their reading in the app Beanstack.
All participants receive a free book at sign-up, along with a small prize for every 60 minutes they read. For each 60 minutes logged, readers also earn a raffle ticket toward the final prize drawing held on Friday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. Participants who reach 300 minutes of reading — completing the challenge — will receive a second free book.
Readers may enter their raffle tickets into one of four prize drawings: Craft Kits Galore!, STEM Kit: Completely Gross!, Reading Buddy, or Puzzle Prize. Full prize details are available in the Beanstack app. Beanstack can be downloaded from any app store or accessed through the Fairfield, Iowa Beanstack website.
In addition to reading incentives, the library will host a variety of special youth and family events throughout winter break and January, including the return of weekly Preschool Storytime, a learn-to-play session for the card game Sushi Go! Party, a hands-on Builder Day, a creative “Bling Your Book” craft program, and a Cozy Reading Club where winners of the Winter Reading Challenge raffle will be announced.
