The Washington County Extension Office is offering a fourth session of the Ready, Set, Sew! with another sewing project idea. This workshop is geared toward 4-H?ers wanting to explore the sewing project area and practice with their sewing machine more. They will construct a three-fabric pillowcase for themselves and they will make a second to donate to area Operation Backpack Programs in the county. The workshop will be held at the Extension Office on March 5 from 8:30 ? 11:45 a.m. A Project Showcase will be held at 11:45 a.m. for parents, families and friends to come visit and see the day?s projects on display.
Participants will learn basic sewing terms, basic use of the sewing machine, and complete the pillowcase-sewing project. They will review design elements, project records, and conference judging for those members who want to exhibit these projects at the 2016 Washington County Fair. Participants will need to bring their own sewing machine; however, some may be available for borrowing by contacting the Extension Office. A list of material and other supplies needed is available from the Extension Office.
Registrations and the fee for 4-H'ers and non 4-H'ers are due Feb. 26 to the Washington County Extension Office. 4-H offers opportunities to youth fourth grade and older to experience hands-on learning in project areas including sewing but ranging to woodworking and welding. For more information about 4-H, or the sewing project area, or how to volunteer at the March 5 Ready, Set Sew! workshop, contact Amy at the Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
