Recycled racers rev up in Lincoln library

4-H STEM Club turned piles of recycled materials into race car bodies and wheel systems on Jan. 17 after school in the Lincoln Elementary Library. This group is learning about Go Green Engineering. Makiya Moyer, Kendall Hinrichsen and Jade Sheetz worked together to adapt a food box to be their car body.

The 30 participants moved through the engineering design process to ask, plan, design, build, test, and improve. This 4-H STEM Club will meet again Jan. 24 to complete their recycled racer designs and test them on a variety of tracks and a final race down the halls. A community showcase is planned for Jan. 24, at 4:30 p.m., to showcase what the students have learned and built in the ?Go Green Engineering? sessions. Any community member is welcome to come learn more from these students and see their recycled racers in action.

Washington County Extension and 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar to offer this 4-H STEM Club to any 3rd-5th grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math.

The STEM Club February session is already full, however, a March and April session will start advertising soon.
