The Southern Prairie Chapter of the American Red Cross based in Ottumwa is looking for common citizens, the unheralded and unselfish pillars of the community for local recognition.
Nominations for the Heroes of the Heartland event are being taken now for the local recognition event.
The Red Cross is depending on the public to nominate individuals who have performed an extraordinary act of courage or has put in countless hours to a special cause.
Nomination forms can be found on-line at www.southernprairie.redcross.org, may be picked up at the Red Cross office in Ottumwa and are available at all BP, Elliott Oil Co. locations.
?There are heroes walking among us every day ? the people who put others above themselves ? and it is our pleasure to honor ordinary people for doing extraordinary things,? said Steve Barnett, chapter support officer, American Red Cross.
Nominations will be accepted now through Feb. 29.
Nomination forms can be mailed to the Southern Prairie Chapter of the American Red Cross, 408 E. Main St., Ottumwa 52501, or faxed to 641-682-1359.
