We would love a regular column devoted to gardening of veggies and flowers, etc. written by the local Master Gardeners. Our first question would be about taking care of a Vole, not Mole, problem. For years we have planted tulips only to have no bulbs appear because the voles had eaten them over the winter/spring time. Last year we read of putting mothballs on top of where you planted any spring blooming bulbs. We put mothballs over the areas planted the first of each of December, January and February and everything bloomed and nothing bothered the plants, including us. The smell of the mothballs was SO strong that it was not a pleasant experience to be outside observing the bloom. We had to stay in our car and just observe from a distance. We have tried mousetraps with peanut butter and sunflower seeds on them but did not have much success with that. Help. Last year most of our Dahlia tubers were eaten by the Voles. We had never had that problem before but maybe the drought had something to do with that.
