Relay for Life holding first 5K
Jefferson County Relay for Life will hold its first 5K run/walk the evening of Oct. 8 at The Walton Club.
Registration for ?Light Up the Night for Hope? will begin at 5 p.m., with the run/walk starting at 6:30 p.m.
Preregistration before Wednesday is $25 per participant, with a T-shirt guaranteed. If 10 registrations are submitted at the same time, a discounted rate of $20 per paricipant is applied.

Jefferson County Relay for Life will hold its first 5K run/walk the evening of Oct. 8 at The Walton Club.
Registration for ?Light Up the Night for Hope? will begin at 5 p.m., with the run/walk starting at 6:30 p.m.
Preregistration before Wednesday is $25 per participant, with a T-shirt guaranteed. If 10 registrations are submitted at the same time, a discounted rate of $20 per paricipant is applied.
After Wednesday, the fee is $35 per participant, and a T-shirt is not guaranteed.
Luminaria also will be sold to be displayed during Light Up the Night for Hope. A $5 donation per bag will help in the fight against cancer and serve as a symbol along the finish line to memorialize or honor a loved one.
Proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society.
?Any one can participate, and there is no age requirment,? said organizer Emily Cox. ?The flyer and registration form is on our Facebook page. They can also reach out to me to register.?
The first 50 finishers will receive a medal.
Prizes will be given for: the person who glows the most; best decorated group/person; and best-themed group/person.
According to the event flyer, ?In 2016, an estimated 17,100 Iowans will be told they have cancer. The American Cancer Society is here to help by providing programs, services and research dollars? ... and people can support the American Cancer Society by taking part in the Light Up the Night for Hope 5K.
