Life Chain set Sunday in Washington
Washington County Right to Life is sponsoring its 11th annual Life Chain from 2:30-3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, along Highway 92 in Washington.
All are invited to participate. Meet at 2:15 p.m. at the Washington Steele Aquatic Center parking lot. Signs will be provided.
This is a quiet, prayerful witness of standing respectfully along the highway with signs such as 'Adoption: The Loving Option” or 'Life - The First Inalienable Right” and is appropriate for all ages.
Feel free to bring a lawn chair if standing that long is not possible.

Life Chain event Sunday in Fairfield
October is Respect Life Month. The first Sunday of the month is always Life Chain Sunday, which this year falls on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful public witness of anti-abortion individuals praying for our nation and for the end of abortion.
The first Life Chain was held in 1987 in Yuba City and Marysville, California, by a anti-abortion group entitled Please Let Me Live. Since then, it has spread across the nation. This year, there will be Life Chains in at least 32 cities in Iowa.
In Fairfield, meet at 12:45 p.m. at the city parking lot south of First National Bank at the corner of Court Street and Washington Avenuye. Anti-abortion signs will be provided and participants will pray silently from 1-2 p.m. If standing is difficult, feel free to bring a lawn chair.
The event will be canceled only if it is lightning.

FAB movie planned Sunday
A Fellowship At Brighton movie, 'Courageous,” will be shown at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Brighton Community Church.
The film is a story of four policemen who are grappling with what it means to be fathers.
This FAB event is open to the public, and all are welcome.
Fairfield Presbyterian Women raising funds for local projects
The Fairfield Presbyterian Women will have a ham ball luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, at the First Presbyterian Church to raise funds for local missions projects.
The Presbyterian Women's group helps support the Washington Elementary School pre-K through first-grade milk ticket program, as well as other local hunger issues such as The Lord's Cupboard, Come to Supper, and Take Away Hunger.
Reservations for the luncheon are appreciated, but not required. Call 641-472-4285 for more information.
Fairfield First Christian plans soup supper
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield is planning its first soup supper of the season Thursday, Oct. 10, at the church.
Serving will be 5-6:30 p.m.
The menu includes soups, pies, relishes and Kenny's Cornbread.
Proceeds will benefit The Lord's Cupboard.
Team Iowa Missions plans fundraising event
Team Iowa Missions Inc. will have a costume party fundraising event from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Jimmy Jones Shelter in Ottumwa to benefit Heaven for Haiti.
The party will include many family-friendly activities, including a costume contest, a talent show contest, a cookie decorating contest, a coloring contest, performances by DJ Tim Osteen and Barnyard Bill the Clown, a bounce house, cake walk, pumpkin face painting, and food.

Team Iowa Missions is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Blakesburg. The organization's goal is to reachothers in Christ's love through short-term mission trips. A main focus has been the people of Haiti. Helping through food distribution, construction and rehab of homes, agricultural support, promotion of education, medical support and pregnancy education programs are just some of the group's endeavors.
Prairie View serving turkey supper
The Prairie View United Methodist Church will be holding its annual Turkey Supper on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the church on Highway 78 between Richland and Ollie.
The menu will feature turkey and all the trimmings as well as a salad bar and homemade pies.
Serving begins at 4:30 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m., with a freewill offering for dine-in meals. A fee will be charged for takeout orders.
No need to call for takeout; pay when orders are picked up.
Take Away Hunger packing successful
The 86 volunteers packed 24,192 Take Away Hunger meals Sunday, Sept. 29, at Word of Life Church in Fairfield.
'What an awesome group of volunteers we have,” said organizer Don Henderson. 'It seems to keep getting faster and easier as everyone learns the system. It certainly couldn't be done without them, also to those that contribute their hard earned dollars to this wonderful mission.”
Henderson said about 15 fewer volunteers than the average turned out, but the packing was done in about 2.5 hours, and then, several volunteers stayed to help with the clean up.
