Headin' Home Quartet at Wesley Chapel
Wesley Chapel in Mt. Pleasant will have a southern gospel concert, featuring the Headin' Home Quartet, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
The congregation will serve a light supper at 5 p.m., and introduce the quartet at 6 p.m.
Wesley Chapel is accessible, with plenty of free parking.
All are welcome to the supper and concert. A free will offering will be received.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League convention held
The 38th Biennial Convention of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was held June 20-23 in Mobile, Alabama.
Over 3,500 women attended the convention. Several of these women were from the Mt. Pleasant Zone of the LWML, including Angie Banko, Muscatine, Mary Francis, Muscatine, Karen Lyons, Washington, Paulette Shappell, Mt. Pleasant, and Gretchen Rasmussen, Fairfield, who served as the zone voting delegate.
The convention theme was 'In Praise to the Lord.” The mission goal of $2 million for the 2017-2019 biennial had been met and surpassed. A new mission goal of $2.1 million was voted on and approved for the 2019-2021 biennial. The 23 grants approved for funding include those in North America, Africa, Asia, and Central America.
The LWML is a recognized auxiliary of the LCMS and the Mt. Pleasant Zone consists of women from LWML churches in Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Keosauqua, Mt. Pleasant, Muscatine, Wapello, and Wilton.
RCIA classes beginning at St. Mary
A Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults class will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Fairfield.
Participants will learn more about what Catholics believe, how to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and how to get back into the faith community.

‘Come to Breakfast' ministry closes
The 'Come to Breakfast” ministry, a free breakfast offered monthly at First Lutheran Church, has been discontinued.
Participation was not as organizers had anticipated.
'Come to Supper,” a free meal served to anyone in need, continues from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays at First Lutheran Church. If the program is going to continue, groups to volunteer to prepare and serve the meal are needed. Any group that is able to help or would like more information, can contact the Rev.
