Remember to be thankful for what you have

The Bible says, ?In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.? We have much to be thankful for and I know that sometimes we forget or don?t take the time to just stop and think about how much we have to be thankful for. Right at the top of the list is the fact that the God of all creation loves and cares about us each and every one. He leaves no one out. Of course we have to accept Him and His way for us to truly benefit from the fullness of that love. We have the Bible, which is the Word of God, which tells us about God, His love for us, and gives us direction on how we may live and find the fullness of this love as we go through this journey of life down here.
Some people just simply drift through life. Their choices, when they can muster up the will to choose, have a tendency to take the course of least resistance. In the Bible God tells us about a man named Lot and what happened as this was the way that He seemed to go through life. While he was still young he lost his father; and although this was hard for him, he still had strong role models in his grandfather Terah and his uncle Abram, who raised him. But Lot did not develop their sense of purpose ? like a lot of people. But God has a purpose for us, and as we seek and find that purpose, that is when we start coming into the fullness of life that God has for us. Throughout Lot?s life he was so caught up in the present moment that he seemed incapable of seeing the consequences of his actions. If he had not had Abram?s careful attention and God?s intervention, it is hard to tell what would have happened to him.
By the time Lot?s life was coming to an end, his life had taken a very ugly turn. He had so blended into the sinful culture of that day that he did not want to leave it. Then his daughters committed incest with him. His drifting finally took him in a very specific direction ? destruction. However, God rescued Lot out of Sodom and in 2 Peter 2:7, the Bible says, ?and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) and goes on to say, the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment.?
Lot?s story gives hope to us that God forgives and often brings about positive circumstances from evil. What is the direction of your life? Are you headed toward God or away from Him? If you are a drifter, the choice of God may seem difficult, but it is the one choice that puts all other choices in a different light. May you seek Him and find Him, for ?in His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand there are pleasures forever more.?
