Remembering those who left us a legacy
?The memory of the righteous will be a blessing?? (Proverbs 10:7a)
The flowers are appearing in the cemeteries, flags will unfurl in the breeze, the names of fallen soldiers and sailors and airmen/women will be read, Taps will burst from the bugles. ?The memory of the righteous will be a blessing?? (Proverbs 10:7a)
The flowers are appearing in the cemeteries, flags will unfurl in the breeze, the names of fallen soldiers and sailors and airmen/women will be read, Taps will burst from the bugles. All of these things call us to remember beloved family members and service men and women who gave their lives for the sake of freedom and honor.
Memory is an important thing to our Lord. Time and again the Scriptures call God?s people to remember critical times and events in the history of the faithful: the crossing of the Red Sea as the Israelites fled from Egyptian slavery, the forty years in the wilderness under Moses? leadership, the Last Supper before Jesus died on the cross and more.
If events are important, then surely people are, too, especially those who have had a positive impact on our lives, ?the righteous.? The fun and fellowship of this holiday weekend are part of our national tradition, but the heroes we honor, whether military or personal, are really at the core of our attention as we take time to remember and be thankful for who they were and what they have done for us as individuals and our nation as a people. May their selfless acts and generous love leave us a legacy to carry forward in our own lives.
