Jefferson County ISU Extension is holding a free workshop, ?Gardening Out of Your Comfort Zone,? from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Extension office.
Gary Whittenbaugh will present a program on how to ?dare to be different? in a garden or landscape.
Whittenbaugh said gardeners can express themselves by using some really varied plants; not the same-old same-old trees, shrubs, vines and perennials, but unusual ones, such as Korean Stewartia, Weeping Katsura, Redvein Enkianthus, Dwarf Mountain Lover, Indian Pink and Sandwort.
Whittenbaugh also will introduce attendees to some different garden types, including winter-hardy cactus, rock and trough gardening.
The workshop is open to all community members. Those attending the workshop are asked to reserve a spot by contacting Colleen Matson at 472-4166 or cmatson@iastate.edu.
