Local residents and visitors, as well, were treated to many activities to watch and participate in both Friday evening, July 7 and Saturday, July 8 at Crawfordsville's Annual Fun Days. All events took place in and in front of the Crawfordsville Fire Station.
Friday evening started off with a Cornhole Tournament from 6-9 p.m. 1st place was won by Master of The Hole and 2nd by Partners in Crime. Everyone seemed to enjoy this, both the participants and the spectators. El Gringo Loco satisfied everyone's taste with Mexican food and Delovely's Mini Donuts were on hand for everyone to enjoy their ice cream and mini donut treats. This was followed by movie night at the City Hall showing "Lion King."
Saturday morning started bright and early with the Fire Department serving Biscuits and Gravy to a hungry crowd. There was a Car, Truck, Tractor and Garden Tractor show from 7 a.m. until noon. Clint Stout won "Peoples Choice" with a 1969 Chevrolet C20 painted Robin's Egg Blue that he rescued from the weeds and restored, that had previously been owned by his grandfather, Jon Coakley.
JT Sips and Eaton Good Kettle Corn food trucks were available from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The parade sponsored by People Savings Bank was led by Cub Scouts, Lucy Carter and Jessup Collier carrying the American Flag followed by the Southeast Iowa Regional Fire Honor Guard. There were many entries including fire trucks, EMS, tractors, some from the Wayland area Antique Tractor Club, trucks and even a buggy. The parade was led by the Grand Marshal's Hubert and Bev McElhinney, followed by several members of the Crawfordsville Lions Club, who were celebrating their 70th anniversary and the Henry Davis family members, including kids, grandkids and greats and great-greats all rode together on a trailer with the year 1889, being the year when relatives first came here. Also, Betty Lintz and Margaret Patterson represented White Cloud Club in the parade celebrating 83 years of being a neighborhood club. Much candy was thrown out along the way.
The Firemen enjoyed the water fights and Crawfordsville Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Collins was the winner of water fights and won the first traveling trophy for that. This was the debut of a traveling trophy which will be engraved with names of winners for years to come.
They also gave engraved plaques to Mike Miller who was recognized as the first Crawfordsville Fire Fighter of the year. He has served with the Crawfordsville Fire Department since 2010 and all his fellow firemen speak highly of his efforts and Karen Dennler received an engraved plaque as the first Crawfordsville First Responders EMS Provider of the Year.
