Rolling into week five for the Cardinal Express exercise program, and our residents have exercised 5,581 minutes. The top three exercisers are: Marcella Reed with 2,654 minutes, Bea Johnson with 2,344 minutes, and Fran Victor with 2,055 minutes. Even more residents made it past Cincinnati and on to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Two of our residents made it to Chicago, Illinois and will be delivered a final prize of a Chicago Cubs cup and candy. Once residents have made it to Chicago they will travel back to New York City.
Thursday Nov. 14, residents were treated to a virtual reality experience. Washington Middle School talented and gifted (TAG) teacher Connie Svenby brought 13 of her students to Halcyon House to display their virtual reality goggle sets they recently purchased for the program. Residents went to many destinations such as: a zoo, the Grand Canyon, a tour of Europe, the pyramids of Egypt and the Great Barrier Reef, to name a few. Students narrated during each destination.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, Halcyon House hosted their 11th annual Craft and Vendor fair. Forty-five vendors from the area came and shared their items with both residents and the public. In addition to the craft and vendor fair, Halcyon House hosted an open house with tours of its new households and had two apartments open for the public. A special thank-you to Becky Patterson and Dan and Margaret Stauffer for opening their apartments for the day.
Happy Birthday to: Betty Fistler and Sybil Thornton.
