Retirement from Army announced
SSG Derek S. Genck retired from the Army on Nov. 29, 2017, after serving four tours in combat ? three times in Iraq and one time in Afghanistan. He has lived at several different bases, Korea, Colorado, Oahu, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. He accumulated several awards and medals during his career. One medal was the Purple Heart, which he received after a blast shook his tent in 2006 in Iraq.

He will continue to live in Lawton, Oklahoma, with his wife, Amy Genck, and their children, Kieley, Emi, and Bentley. He now is working for an outside contractor for the military.
Genck is a graduate of the Washington High School Class of 2000. His parents are Steve and Luana Genck of Washington.
