Connell family
Descendants of Francis 'Hap” and Annetta McConnell and Bill and Becky McConnell met Thursday, July 25, at the lodge at Lake Darling State Park near Brighton for a noon potluck and visiting.
There were 61 relatives in attendance including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren of Hap and Annetta.
The afternoon was spent visiting, viewing family photos, swimming, hiking, bird watching and enjoying Lake Darling park.
The next reunion is planned for 2022, coinciding with the triannual Coppock reunion.
Coppock family
The descendants of Homer Coppock held a reunion Friday through Sunday, July 26-28, at Marr Park near Ainsworth.
More than 100 people attended, many from Iowa but others from as far away as California, Oregon, Washington state, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts, New York, Michigan, Nebraska, Missouri and England.
Descendants young and old participated in a wide-ranging talent show Friday evening. Peg Reich of New York state presented a program of slides and selections of letters written between 1905 and 1918 by Homer Coppock and Carrie Rowan. Carrie was Homer's first wife and grandmother and great-grandmother of most of those in attendance.
A large group drove out to the Eagle's Nest on the Skunk River in Coppock to continue getting reacquainted while others visited cemeteries where the ancestors are buried. Saturday evening many cousins, young and old, enjoyed swimming at the Aquatic Center. Visits to local restaurants, and especially ice cream shops like the Corner Creamery and Dairy Mart, are an important part of this triennial event, and this year was no exception. Local people who are part of the Coppock clan include Sandy and Larry Krotz, Fran Langenberg, Jana Nieman, Gwen Ying, and Jim Goff.
