Richland library to host program on ‘moonshine and bootleggers’
Mar. 6, 2023 9:54 am
Linda McCann, Iowa author and historian, will present a program on “Prohibition in Southeast Iowa” at the Richland Public Library on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
Prohibition was the period of time in U.S. history when it was illegal to manufacture, transport or sell alcohol in the U.S. Despite this, farmers throughout Iowa, including southeast Iowa, turned their corn into liquor. Linda McCann has researched the history of moonshine in southeast Iowa and has spoken to the children of bootleggers in our area to find out how and why liquor was manufactured and distributed during the prohibition years spanning 1920-1933.
Linda has published several books exploring Iowa history, including topics such as prohibition, prisoner of war camps in Iowa, the Civilian Conservation Corps, vanished Iowa towns and more. Linda will have her books available to sign and purchase after the program.
This free program is open to the public. For more information, please call (319-456-6541) or email the library at richlib@natel.net.
