Robert W. Ekle, 80, of rural Farmington, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
On Sunday, June 26, 2016, the family will welcome friends beginning at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, in Farmington. Robert W. Ekle, 80, of rural Farmington, died on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.
On Sunday, June 26, 2016, the family will welcome friends beginning at 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, in Farmington. A memorial service will directly follow the visitation at 3 p.m., with Rev. Michael Elrod and Rev. Dawn Butler officiating. Following the memorial service, a time of fellowship will be held in the church basement. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Croton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schmitzfuneralhomes.com. The Schmitz Funeral Home, in Farmington, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Ekle was born on Aug. 17, 1935, in Keokuk, the son of Walter Henry and Marie (Schmitt) Ekle. On June 6, 1956, he married Marilyn Philp at Embury United Methodist Church, in rural Donnellson. He was a graduate of Keokuk High School.
He was a farmer.
He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler over his farm, spending time with his dog, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends.
Ekle is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Farmington; one son, Mark (Audrey) Ekle, of Farmington; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two AFS sons, Guilherme Lulsdorf and Gerhardt Platzer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robby and Eric; and his siblings, Walter, Leroy, Janey and Rose.
