Roger Davis, 84, died peacefully on Thursday, March 7th in Winfield, IA.
He was born on October 24, 1934 in rural Wyman to David U. and Mildred Buffington Davis. He graduated from Wyman High School in 1952. Following high school, Roger headed west to harvest wheat fields. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1955-1957.
On June 15, 1958, he married Gladys E Rees. Following their marriage, Roger and Gladys lived in Columbus Junction for 1 year before settling on a farm in rural Winfield in 1959, where he resided until his final days.
He was an active member of Spring Run Church his entire life. He enjoyed farming, traveling, watching various sports teams, and spending time with family.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra (Stuart) Johnson of Shawnee, KS and Donna (Dane) Schaudt of Pella; one son, Carl (Nancy) Davis of Winfield; and eight grandchildren, Hillary & Hannah Johnson; Kaitlyn, Karissa, Kollin, & Kara Schaudt; and Kerry & Neil Davis. The Davis' hosted a foreign exchange student, Lesbia Roner Hansen, from 1976-77 and has remained close to the family. She currently resides in Boca Raton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; parents; a grandson; and his siblings Merlin Davis, Loris Wiley, and Joy Crossett.
Visitation is to be Sunday March 10, 2019 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.pm where the family will meet with friends at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. The funeral service will be Monday March 11, 2019 at 10:30am at Spring Run Church. Burial will follow at Cambrian Cemetery, rural Columbus Junction. A memorial has been established for Spring Run Church.
