Roger Roth receives Warren Coleman Award

The Wayland Lions Club held their Nov. 16 meeting at the “Your Choice Restaurant.” There were 13 members present and two guests. Lion Ron Marsh brought Sid Brooks as his guest. Guest Speaker was Bryan Bross, who is a Past District Governor of District 9SE and presently Council Chair for Iowa State Lions.
Prior to the meeting, Lion Brian Pattyson explained the purpose of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for recognition of Humanitarian Work & Warren Coleman Award in recognition of a Lions dedication to serving their communities. The recipient of these awards voted on by Wayland Lions Club Members are as follows:
Melvin Jones Awards - Randy Morrow, Robert Meyer, Bill Grimm
Warren Coleman Award - Randy Morrow
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Braden Blake, followed by the Invocation by Lion Robert Meyer.
Secretary Bill Grimm gave the last meeting’s minutes and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report, after the meal. Both were approved unanimously by the members. The meeting broke for a meal.
Past District Governor/Council Chair Bryan Bross presented Lion Roger Roth with the Warren Coleman Award for his 53 Years of dedicated service to the Wayland Community. Roger also served as a Membership Chairman during his years of service.
“Through your actions, you have shown deep concern for the welfare of those in need,” read a letter from the Iowa Lions Foundation President Phillip Larabee. “For this, we convey our deepest respect.”
President Braden Blake read a Thank You Note from Henry County Freedom Rock Committee for the Wayland Lions Club Donation.
Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program was updated by Lion Randy Morrow with a present participation rate of 121. Randy is putting final touches on the Flag Storage Trailer to accommodate Flags & Flag Poles. Randy is also re-marking pole locations for better visibility.
A Christmas meal is being planned for the next meeting date on Dec. 14 at the Wayland Community Center at 6:30 p.m., catered by Alice Hochstetler.
