Three Rotaract students from Maharishi University of Managment, from left, Joshua Laraby, Samira Abdelrahman and Rotaract Club President Don Brathwaite, read to Washington Elementary School kindergartners. The Fairfield Interact and Rotaract clubs, which are Rotary clubs for high school and college students, recently went to Washington, Pence and Libertyville elementary schools to gave out ?I Can Read? DVDs, with songs and games teaching early literacy skills, to kindergartners. Reading teachers also received a book, music CD and other supplementary materials from the same program. After handing out the presents, club members read a story to the children. The clubs have been fundraising the last few months to purchase the materials by selling raffle tickets for $2 each, with $1 from each ticket going toward the cause and the rest going toward a drawing. May Iber of Mount Vernon won $250 in the first drawing. One more $250 prize will be given out when the group reaches its goal to sell 500 tickets. Anyone interested in purchasing a raffle ticket can contact Interact and Rotaract Clubs Chairwoman Beth Alonso at 472-3816.
