Fort Madison - New London boys? varsity basketball dropped to 0-1 Tuesday night, after a loss at the hands of the Holy Trinity Crusaders, by the final score of 61-41. The Tigers traded blows with Holy Trinity for three of the four quarters, but a disaster in the third period was too much to overcome.
New London went into the second quarter leading by one point, but gave up the lead and took a 25-22 halftime deficit into the locker room. At halftime it looked to be a back-and-forth battle to the end, but it was not to be.
The Crusaders exploded out of the second half gate scoring a game high 19 points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Tigers had trouble finding their rhythm and scored only three points in the period, a game low.
In the fourth quarter, the game went back to its back-and-forth pace, but the game was already out of hand, and in the end, Holy Trinity walked out with a hard-fought win.
Senior Quincy Porter lead the Tigers in scoring, putting in almost half of the New London points, finishing the game with 18. Other top scorers for the Tigers were two other seniors, Tristan Kadel with eight of the team?s points, and Hunter Moeller with seven.
