RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Fairfield, is expanding its popular Pen Pal Program to two classrooms: one at Pence Elementary, with third grade teacher Michaela Reynolds, and the other at Maharishi School, with third- and fourth-grade teacher Diane James.
In this program, students write letters from school roughly monthly, and senior volunteers send a reply from the convenience of their own residences throughout the school year. If time permits, a brief meetup will be planned for May at the schools.
The program, which should begin in September, provides intergenerational contact as well as some experience with letter-writing style.
If the opportunity sounds of interest to anyone age 55 and older, call John Miller, RSVP coordinator in Jefferson County, at 641-919-4242, or email him atj.miller@wapellocouw.org.
Ask Miller about the many other volunteer opportunities available.
