The Jefferson County Wellness Coalition, in association with the Fairfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, views the Memorial Day ?Hit the Trail? event as a success.
A dozen runners kicked the day off at 6:30 a.m. with the Fitness Trail Run under the watchful eye of Peter Mannisi.
Also in the morning, 15 people armed with photographic gear were at the trailhead for the CS Morris Nature Photography tutorial. The third annual Brooks Walkers had 15 participants, and seven of them found their way back to the start 16.5 miles later.
At 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Mannisi was on the trails with another 19 runners and walkers.
?It was good to see so many people on the Fairfield Loop Trail on Memorial Day,? said one of the event leaders, Tom Brooks. ?Whether people hiked/biked the 16.5-mile loop or just a section, everyone enjoyed being together in the fresh air. We are looking forward to next year?s event and hope more and more people will get out for this annual event.?
Ken Daley, Jefferson County Wellness Coalition executive director, agreed it was a successful first year. He said those present were excited and appreciative of having the opportunity to get outdoors with a group of like-minded people.
