Self Help And Resource Exchange, a nonprofit food-buying organization, is again offering meal packages at reduced costs in October through its volunteer-run distribution system.
Participants are not required to meet income guidelines, but it is requested that they volunteer two hours of their time toward community service of their own choosing. Examples include helping an organization, church, the S.H.A.R.E. program, visiting a shut-in, helping a neighbor or being involved with children?s school activities.
A total of 10 different packages are available in October.
The October Best Value Package is offered for $25 and includes: ready-to-cook breaded chicken strips, 1 pound; Hormel lemon garlic pork loin, 1 pound; fully cooked all beef meatloaf patties, 1 pound or five patties; mild turkey Italian sausage, 1 pound; Shullsburg Colby jack cheese, 8 ounces; and an assortment of fresh seasonal produce.
Other packages include: chicken and cheese burritos, ribeye steaks, New York strip steaks, breaded shrimp, haddock filets, breaded lemon pepper tilapia filets, pepperoni pizza and butterball turkey breast.
Orders will be taken at St. Mary Catholic Church?s office and the SIEDA office, or online at www.shareiowa.org. For information about the program, call St. Mary Catholic Church at 472-3179 or SIEDA at 472-6140.
Orders and payment are due before Oct. 7.
Pickup of food packages is at 8 a.m. Oct. 22 at Eagles Club.
