Saint James School in Washington prides itself on being a family atmosphere that helps people grow together spiritually and academically. This year for Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 24-29), the school will be focusing on faith, excellence, and service.
The school will commemorate our school pride by looking at the examples of faith from the Bible in the story of Abraham, and from the life of Saint John Bosco.
'Our academic excellence will be evident as we have fun with one subject (reading, math, science, or social studies) each night of the week during our Family Night Zoom Meetings,” stated a news release from the school.
The St. James School Family is called to service this year through 'Operation Care Package,” as it is collecting items to send to servicemen and women.
To align with God's promise to Abraham and Sarah, the theme this year is: Count the Stars!
'God's blessings are as numerous as the stars of heaven.” - Nehemiah 9”23
The week will begin with Mass on Sunday. Most families will be joining virtually, but a few students will attend in person with their parents and teachers to help with the parts of the Mass.
The daily themes are: Star Light, Star Bright; Rock Stars for Jesus; Shining Stars; Reach for the Stars; and Stars and Stripes. Students and teachers are encouraged to dress for the theme-of-the-day to celebrate!
During the school week, the school will meet as 'Mass Families” for 40 minutes each day to do a fun faith activity related to the theme. 'Mass Families” consist of one teacher and 2-3 students from each grade from Kindergarten through 5th Grade. As a special bonus activity, we will be inviting St. James School Alumni to join us for Lunch via Zoom on Reach for the Stars day to talk about their experiences at St. James and to share about their career choices.
In order to include our whole faith community in our festivities, we will have a door decorating contest! The parish will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design by going to our Facebook page during Catholic Schools Week.
