The Salvation Army?s annual Christmas red kettles and bell ringers have been out in Fairfield since Nov. 25 this year.
?I?d like to extend a big thank you to the generous people of Jefferson County for ringing bells, and for the generous contributions in the red kettles,? said the Rev. Jim McGaffey, Jefferson County coordinator for The Salvation Army.
?Also, a big thank you to the employees of Libertyville Savings Bank and Lions Club members for ringing bells Dec. 2, and Fairfield Kiwanis who rang bells Saturday,? said McGaffey. ?These groups have helped tremendously in this year?s fundraising efforts.
?We have set a record in already raising more than $5,500 toward our goal of $16,000.?
While McGaffey said the community?s response for volunteer bell ringers, ?has been wonderful,? there is a need for more volunteers.
Call McGaffey at 472-2524 to schedule a time slot to ring a bell at a red kettle.
Donations (checks accepted, made out to The Salvation Army) can be dropped in the red kettles at Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store or Walmart in Fairfield, or mailed to: The Salvation Army, c/o the Rev. Jim McGaffey, 202 S. Fifth St., Fairfield 52556.
