Executive director Dawn Safrit at Noah?s Ark Animal Foundation in Fairfield, gave her pint of blood Monday during Noah?s Ark blood drive in honor of Cody Cohen. Cohen, 18, of Fairfield, is a volunteer at the animal shelter. He was diagnosed last winter with MDS, a blood cancer which progressed to AML ? acute myelogenous leukemia. He is being treated at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Safrit said 28 people volunteered to donate blood Monday, 23 pints were drawn and 14 of the 23 people drawn were first-time blood donors. Shayla Boese, animal care coordinator at Noah?s Ark, also donated blood Monday.
