The Mt. Pleasant Scribblers opened their new season of meetings at the home of Mary Shy on Oct. 7, 2015. Mary Ann Freeland was co-hostess. Ten members and a guest were present.
Memories were shared of a recently deceased member, Mary Kopsieker. In her memory, the book, ?Pioneer Girl: An Annotated Autobiography?, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, will be placed in the Hedrick Library, where Kopsieker went regularly to read to children.
Plans for the Christmas meeting were also discussed.
After the formal business meeting, members shared their writings: memories of youth and young adulthood told to surprised adult children, Haitian mission experience, a member?s imagined effects of a brain transplant, and a children?s book about personal experience in foreign adoption were read and enjoyed.
Waunita Hobbie wrote about a book refused by the Mt. Pleasant Public Library, causing a discussion that went beyond U.S. borders. The publisher responded by offering a free copy to any person with a Mt. Pleasant address requesting one.
The readings closed with memories of Betty Geary, a past club president; and Mary Kopsieker, a past secretary; both missed at club meetings.
The next Scribblers meeting will be a Saturday morning brunch on Saturday, Nov. 7.
