The Mt. Pleasant Scribblers met at Kathy Wiley?s home on May 6, 2015, with eight members and two visitors present.
At the club president?s suggestion, the group introduced themselves to the guests, reporting the last thing they had written. Answers from the eight members in attendance varied from greeting cards, final exams, to-do lists, to a newspaper article, a personal experience with dental veneer and journal entries.
One guest has been working on a book of her experiences with manic depression, and the last thing written was for a talk that she is to present soon. The other guest joined the list makers.
Mary Oliver?s ?Blue Horses? was selected to be placed in the library in Betty Geary?s memory.
After business was adjourned, hostess Kathy Wiley presented an informative program on Adelaide Crapsey, a woman who invented and perfected a form of poetry known as the cinquain, a poetry form with five lines. Wiley shared handouts with this form of poetry and its rules, such as syllables and words. She also defined some of the many variations of the cinquain: reverse, mirror, butterfly, didactic and crown.
Kathy delighted the group with some of her own haikus and cinquains. She also passed a selection of pictures to give prompts for writing cinquains. At this point, some members were ready for the challenge and it was decided that some cinquains would be read during the next meeting?s program.
The next meeting will be held June 6, at the home of Rita Davis.
