Washington High School student David Hora was one of several students who met with Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate at the World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute luncheon at Iowa State University in Ames last week.
The students discussed a variety of topics with Secretary Pate, ranging from international relations and agriculture to registering to vote and starting a career in state politics.
'I often tell young people that they're not future leaders, they are leaders today, and David exemplifies that by taking part in the World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute,” Secretary Pate said. 'This event is all about combating global hunger and poverty. They had some intriguing ideas of their own and I was very impressed by what I heard from them.”
The more than 300 students also got to hear speeches from former U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg.
