Jan. 29, 2019 11:57 am
The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra will present its 68th season Winter Masterworks Series concerts, Fantastique!, with the music of Berlioz, Ravel and Robert Tindle. Performances will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 7:30 p.m. at the Bridge View Center in Ottumwa; Sunday, Feb. 10, 2 p.m. at the Capitol Theater in Burlington; and again Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel Auditorium in Mt. Pleasant.
The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Robert McConnell, will serve up a powerful punch on their upcoming Winter Masterworks Series concert. The concert will feature our Artist-in-Residence trumpeter Buddy Deshler of the Dallas Brass. Mr. Deshler will be performing the world premiere of 'All My Spirit Tingled” for trumpet and orchestra by Robert Tindle. SEISO's 2019 Marilyn Minford McCoid Young Artist winner, John Flannery from Washington will perform the first movement of Maurice Ravel's 'Piano Concerto in G.” The concert is rounded out by Hector Berlioz's monumental take on life and death: Symphonie Fantastique.
Admission to the winter concerts in Burlington, Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant is by season ticket or by single tickets which may be purchased at the door or on our website www.seiso.us. Adult tickets are $20 and kids/student tickets (aged 0-22) are free. There is no reserved seating.
Make the most of your concert experience by attending the ‘Prelude.' Music Director Robert McConnell will be on hand 45 minutes before performances in Burlington, Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant to talk about the music and the orchestra's artist-in-residence Buddy Deshler and young artist winner John Flannery. ‘Prelude' is supported through a grant from the Charles W. Rand Memorial Lecture Fund in Burlington and is offered free of charge to all audience members.
As part of his residency Buddy Deshler will be performing in local schools across Southeast Iowa between Jan. 28 - Feb 7, as well as performing with the orchestra. Each year, the Artist-in-Residence program reaches more than 1,100 students. Robert McConnell, director of the orchestra, said 'the opportunity to have Buddy perform for students is incredible. To hear him play is the kind of thing that could get a student excited about pursuing music. There's nothing more valuable than that.” If you have questions, please contact the SEISO Office at 601 North Main, Mt. Pleasant 52641 or email seiso@iw.edu.
