SEMCO announces landfill changes
SEMCO is undergoing a different approach to our "white goods" (appliances) and loose metal managment. SEMCO is undergoing a different approach to our "white goods" (appliances) and loose metal managment. Effective April 16, a fee of $10 will be charged for white goods brought to the landfill, which includes stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, air conditioners. In addition, loose metals brought to the landfill need to be placed in a 40-yard metal container, and all truck and trailer loads should be taken directly to the scrap yards.
There are revised guidelines set by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for white goods and only a state- or EPA-licensed facility is allowed to remove the white goods for recycling purposes from the landfill.
