The City of Washington has contracted with Hydro-Klean to jet the sewer systems on the southeast side of the city, according to a press release from the city. This work is being done in conjunction with the city staff conducting inspections and videoing the lines after cleaning. The cleaning can cause the sewer traps in homes to become dry.
If residents notice the contractor in their area or they notice a sewer smell in their home they should run water in the sinks and flush the toilets several times. This will allow the traps to fill with water and operate properly. The cleaning can also cause minor water to splash in the toilet. Residents in this area are asked to keep lids down on toilets until the cleaning is completed. Hydro-Klean has several phases of cleaning to complete and will be working in the area until the end of the calendar year.
