The Washington County Extension Office held a ?Shake Things Up? Day Camp on June 23rd at New Dawn at Sunset in Washington for 4th-6th graders. The day was full of fun and experiments while learning to design earthquake resistant buildings.
Throughout the camp, students gained a better definition of science terms such as engineering, shake tables, Richter, building codes, shear, and were able to experiment with the building designs. Students worked in groups and individually to design, test and redesign building skeletons with the goal to have it withstand a 7.0 simulated earthquake.
Leader for the camp was Extension Staff Jodi Ebert. She had help from members of the Washington 4-H County Council and Leadership Development Team.
