Sharing The Weight
Sharing The Weight blanket-makers recently met at SunnyBrook Assisted Living to make more blankets for individuals who benefit from the weighted blankets.
The workshop is chaired by Joanne Ancell, with assistance from Mary Sue Hoaglin.
Almost 40 weighted blankets have been made by the group and donated to individuals with autism and other special health concerns. The blankets are weighted with plastic pellets, donated by area manufacturers, in ?pockets? sewn at the workshop or by volunteers at their homes. The blankets are washable, but cannot be dried in a dryer due to the pellet content.
In addition to Ancell and Hoaglin, some regular blanket-making individuals include Mary Brown, Jean Burkhart, Carol Sutton, Virginia VanNess and Judy Webber.
The group has been meeting monthly alternating between Saturday and Monday. The next gathering will be on a Saturday, Sept. 16, at SunnyBrook Assisted Living. Following meetings will be Oct. 16, Nov. 18 and Dec. 11.
The workshops are open to all ages and gender, and there is no charge to participate. Newcomers are welcome, and no sewing skills are necessary as there are other things that must be done besides sewing in order to complete a blanket.
Anyone interested in information about the local workshop can contact Ancell at 472-4736 or Hoaglin at 319-217-0918.
