4-H?ers involved in the sheep project area are invited to attend the spring sheep workshop series starting in April and running until fair.
The 4-H sheep department continues to expand and will offer again this year several educational opportunities to improve and further develop the sheep projects for 4-Hers in Washington County. Different topic areas will be covered at each meeting while a variety of producers and sheep showman will also be available for a question and answer sessions.
The following workshops will be held at the extension office in Washington.
April 6, 6:30 p.m. ? This meeting will be geared toward 1st and 2nd year project members. Topics to be covered: weigh-in process, classes, how to sign up and what to expect. We will also talk about sheep parts, breeds, selection and getting started with the project:
May 4, 6:30 p.m. ? Feeding, training and showmanship;
June 8, 7 p.m. ? Shearing and show preparations. Bring a lamb to be sheared. If they are in long wool and need them sheared we will need to know ahead of time to line up others to shear. We will cover both rough shearing, show shearing and show prep;
and July 6, 7 p.m. ? Showmanship practice in the ring WITH LAMBS. Bring a 4-H lamb to work with while experienced showman offer tips on what to do in the ring.
