Sierra Club to hold program on ‘fast fashion’
Jul. 13, 2021 4:47 pm
The Fairfield Public Library is hosting a program led by Southeast Iowa Sierra Club chair Anne Walton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15 titled "Putting the Brakes on Fast Fashion."
The global apparel and footwear industry produces a combined 1.7 and 2.1 billion tons of CO2 emissions, while consuming huge volumes of fresh water resources and discharging chemical laden wastewater into the environment, according to the news release from the Sierra Club.
“Fast Fashion is trend clothing released at warp speed and sold to the consumer at a low price point, accelerating impacts on the climate and environment while increasing the amount of discarded clothing finding its way into our landfills in an effort to keep up with changing trends. There are climate and environmentally friendly options for the fashion conscious, creating its own fashion trend,” stated the release.
Thursday’s program will be a hybrid event. The library can accommodate socially distanced attendance in the meeting room, and the presentation will also be available via Zoom. Check out the library’s calendar for Zoom information at https://www.fairfield.lib.ia.us/events.
