Six area students recognized in Elementary Honor Band

Six Washington band students were honored as part of the elite first and second-year band students in South East Iowa on Saturday, April 27, at Clear Creek Amana High School. Students arrived at 9:30 a.m. and rehearsed or did master classes with participating directors until noon, rehearsed until about 3:30 p.m., and presented a concert of five pieces each at 4:30 p.m. The first-year band students were under the direction of Eric Lins from the Cedar Falls Community School District and the second year band students were directed by retired Hampton director and Executive Director of the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education, Leon Kuehner.
Washington band directors are Don Hughes and Craig McClenahan.
Washington fifth graders earning all SEIBA honors were: Kezyah Williams-Clarinet, daughter of Teri Kleese and Kevin Williams, and Audrey Smith, daughter of Sonya Love-Smith and Clyde Smith. .
Washington Middle School sixth graders earning all SEIBA honors were: Katherine Flannery-French Horn, daughter of Dr. Ryan and Diana Flannery; Joseph McCleary-Percussion, son of Chad and Katie McCleary; Trevin Sulentich-Tuba, son of Mark and Glenda Sulentich; and Claire Wubbena, daughter of Grant and Diana Wubbena.
