The Southeast Iowa Symphony (SEISO) Chamber Orchestra will present a chamber concert Wednesday evening, July 15, in Washington, at 7 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (1226 E. Washington).
The concert is free and open to public and features 10 area musicians performing a variety of classical, folk and popular music. The group, under the direction of Robert McConnell, includes seven strings, two woodwinds and keyboard but in this appearance will include a guest soloist, Derrick Murphy on piccolo, trumpet, and vocalist Mike Jewell of Washington. The concert also features current and former concert masters of SEISO, violinists Charlene King and Sylvia Ouellette.
?These concerts really have a great variety,? said the conductor Robert McConnell. ?We perform Bach?s Jesu Joy of Man?s Desiring along with A Thousand Years from the movie Twilight, the Downton Abbey main theme and Gabriel?s Oboe from the movie The Mission. It?s just a really nice mix that our audiences have enjoyed.?
Other members of the ensemble include Denise Freyenberger of Wayland, Dr. Jason Edwards of Iowa Wesleyan College, Lauryn Shapter and Donna Nelson of Fairfield, Margaret Runaas of Washington, and Stephanie Dotzel of Iowa City.
