MOUNT PLEASANT — On July 31, during the Young Republican National Convention, the Southeast Iowa Young Republicans were honored with the Small Club of the Year award, out of nearly 400 clubs nationwide. This recognition celebrates their exceptional work electing Republicans at every level of government from the county all the way to Congress.
In the past year, the Southeast YR members have helped eight candidates, organizing thousands of voter contacts for each, including a special election this Spring where volunteers hit 2,000 doors in a single morning. “Most groups get a break after election night,” said Southeast Chairman Ryan Coop. "In Southeast Iowa, that wasn't the case. Our members kept showing up, from volunteering for a recount of Iowa’s 1st Congressional District to hosting a national deployment for a special election, we lead by example."
100% of the candidates endorsed by the club achieved victories in the 2024 general election. The Southeast Iowa Young Republicans have also sent members to neighboring states to assist in close races, extending their influence beyond Iowa’s border.
The Southeast Iowa Young Republicans were rechartered in September 2023 and today represent nearly 30 conservatives under the age of 41 across Appanoose, Davis, Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lee, Louisa, Mahaska, Monroe, Muscatine, Van Buren, Wapello, and Washington counties. Membership is open to any registered Republican aged 18-40. Visit IowaYR.com to learn more.
