Trojans welcome Chiefs tonight

The Fairfield girls? and boys? basketball teams will host Senior Night tonight when the Keokuk Chiefs come to Fairfield.

For these teams, these Southeast Conference matchups are vital games. The Fairfield girls (10-8, 2-4 SEC) are seeking a win so they can still finish .500 in the conference, while Keokuk (13-5, 5-1 SEC) is currently trying to stay ahead of Mt. Pleasant and earn a SEC title. The Chiefs won the first matchup 45-34 behind Lakyn Boltz?s 15 points.

The Keokuk boys (8-6, 3-2 SEC) are currently in second place and one spot ahead of the Trojans in the Southeast Conference. Fairfield (8-8, 3-3) has only home games remaining on its schedule. Keokuk won the first matchup between these teams 66-51. This could also very easily be a playoff preview, as the Chiefs and Trojans are likely to be first round opponents.

MSAE boys fall to Danville at home

The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment boys? basketball team hosted Danville and was defeated 66-35 Thursday.

The Bears outscored the Pioneers 27-2 in the second quarter. MSAE scored more points than Danville (14-2) in the second half, but the damage had already been done. Turnovers were key, and the Pioneers committed 27 of them on the night.

Surya Sawhney was very productive and finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. David Fleshman scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. Giovanni Cingire scored four points and stole the ball twice.

The Pioneers (2-14) host New London tonight at the MSAE Fieldhouse.

Seventh-graders play Burlington, Mt. Pleasant

The Fairfield Middle School seventh-grade girls? basketball A team won at Burlington Aldo Leopold 31-18 Monday.

Kara Jeffrey led Fairfield with 13 points. Ashley Bloomquist scored eight points. Malory Jones chipped in four points.

The B team won 28-15. Madison Kraemer scored 15 points. Jenna Wickenkamp put in five points, while Jillian Dunlap scored four points.

Mt. Pleasant came in to Fairfield and beat the Trojan A team 31-29 Thursday. With a halftime lead of 18-16, the Fairfield girls only managed three points in the third quarter. Down six with two minutes left, the girls? comeback bid fell just short.

?They could have easily given up at different times in the game, but they didn?t,? Fairfield coach Derek Philips said. ?The girls really competed and can take a lot of positives away from this game.?

Jeffrey and Bloomquist each scored 11 points. Alison Godwin chipped in four points.

The Fairfield B team won 24-9. Kraemer scored 12 points. Jaiden Hainline was second in scoring with six on the night.

Fairfield?s next game is Tuesday at home against Keokuk.

Ide Gymnastics earns 11 first place trophies

Nine Ide Gymnastics participants performed at the So You Think You Can Tumble USTA trampoline meet held on Jan. 26 in Maquoketa.

Bella McClaran, Olivia McClaran, Kierra Bickham, Amber Burroughs, Ashlyn Elmore, and Bryanna Popejoy each received a first in trampoline. Bella, Olivia, Michelle Zhang, and Elmore took first place in double mini, and Popejoy scored first in rod floor.

Second place trophies were presented to Juliette Pohren for trampoline and double mini, Popejoy in double mini and to Zhang. Andrew Twohill took third place in double mini and trampoline, and Zhang scored third in rod floor.
