The spring sports season is officially here for Henry County athletics.
The Iowa Wesleyan baseball and softball teams are up and running and the road track and field schedules have already began.
But to some, the season doesn?t feel official until games and meets are taking place right here in Mt. Pleasant.
Luckily for Mt. Pleasant spring sports fans, the upcoming week will see the home debut of a handful of Panther teams, weather permitting.
The first home events of the season will take place on Tuesday, March 28, at 4:30 p.m., at East Lake Park.
On the tennis courts, the Mt. Pleasant boys will be taking on SEC rival Ft. Madison.
The Bloodhounds won the conference last season and swept Mt. Pleasant in the season series.
Just a few steps away on the soccer field, the Panther boys will have a season-opening scrimmage against Oskaloosa.
Boys? soccer is coming off of a 7-8 regular season last year and bringing back the majority of their varsity team this season.
After a short break on Wednesday, opening week has its biggest night on Thursday, March 30.
The boys? tennis team will be back on their home courts with a 4:30 p.m. non-conference showdown against Davis County.
Both track and field teams will also be in action for the first time at home this season.
SEC rivals Fairfield, Ft. Madison and Washington are all scheduled to be in Mt. Pleasant for the Panther boys? home relays. The Trojans and Bloodhounds are also on the docket for the girls? portion of the meet.
The Mt. Pleasant girls? tennis and girls? soccer teams will be making their home debuts the following week. Panther golf teams will begin their season on the road in early April and begin their home schedules in the middle of the month.
