State fair hosting student invention event

DES MOINES ? The Iowa State Fair, in partnership with the Governor?s STEM Advisory Council, has created the first-ever Fair-Ovation event set for Aug. 13 in the Oman Family Youth Inn.

Fair-Ovation is a pitch or idea contest in a science fair-like atmosphere for students in grades 3-12. The contest provides the opportunity for students to gain professional feedback on their innovative ideas, inventions and concepts utilizing the priorities from STEM.

In this first-of-its-kind competition, students can compete individually or as a team in one of three categories: Agri-Tech and Food-Tech, Bio-Tech and Enviro-Tech or Life-Style Innovation.

Teams can consist of up to four members who are in the same grade range ? 3rd-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th.
