State fair steer show raises $375,000 for charity
Sep. 8, 2021 11:56 am
The Iowa Governor's 39th annual Charity Steer Show featured 24 Iowa steer exhibitors. An Audubon teen with ties to Washington County exhibited the grand champion steer.
The grand champion steer "Nelson" was exhibited by Lane Elmquist and purchased by friends and family of Lane and the Audubon community. Proceeds went to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa.
Lane is the 13-year-old son of Joe and Brittany Elmquist of Audubon. He has been involved in baseball, football, wrestling and livestock judging. Showing pigs is one of Lane's passions, along with cattle.
Those local connections? Lane’s grandparents are Scott and Laurie Pemberton of Washington and Joe and Luetta Greene of Crawfordsville.
This year's Governor’s Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair raised $375,000 for the Ronald Mc Donald House. Lane Elmquist showed the grand champion steer. (Submitted)
