State seeks to fill judicial vacancy

District Judge Lucy Gamon submitted her letter of retirement, effective August 1, 2023.

The 8th Judicial District was granted approval to fill the vacancy. The application deadline closed at 12:00 p.m. on May 12, 2023.

The following 6 candidates have submitted their applications:

Michael O. Carpenter

Susan C. Cole

Debra A. George

Dustin D. Hite

Bart K. Klaver

Interviews will be conducted on May 17, 2023, at the Keokuk County Courthouse, 101 South Main, Sigourney, Iowa. The interviews will be open for public observation and listening. The public shall not be allowed to ask questions or make comments. Applicant submissions and materials will be open to the public.

Prior to May 17, 2023, the public will be permitted to submit comments or recommendations regarding the qualifications of an applicant by email to Heidi.baker@iowacourts.gov.

The Commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Reynolds, who will then appoint one within 30 days.
